When you have a positive pregnancy test, it’s an indication you are pregnant. The best way to confirm your pregnancy is through ultrasound. We offer free pregnancy testing and free limited obstetrical ultrasound with one of our medical personnel.
What Is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound (sonogram) is an imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the inside of your uterus. It’s harmless and painless.
Our trained technician applies a gel-like substance to the outside of your abdomen. The gel helps transmit sound waves. A hand-held device called a transducer is rubbed over the gel to record the echoes of the sound waves it picks up. The sound waves create images on a screen.
Why You Need An Ultrasound
You would think a positive result on a pregnancy test would be all you need to know about your unplanned pregnancy, but there’s a lot more to learn.
Three Reasons Why An Ultrasound Is Important:
1.) To Determine If The Pregnancy Is Viable
A viable pregnancy means it’s growing and a heartbeat is detected. It also means you haven’t miscarried. If the pregnancy isn’t viable, your body will likely expel the pregnancy naturally. If this is the case, we recommend you see your healthcare provider.
2.) To Learn How Far Along You Are
It’s important to know the gestational age of your pregnancy. This refers to the number of weeks you’ve been pregnant. If you’re considering abortion, the procedure you have is determined by this date.
3.) To Locate Your Pregnancy
Some pregnancies develop outside of the uterus. This is called an ectopic or tubal pregnancy. Ultrasound reveals whether or not the pregnancy is located in the uterus. An ectopic pregnancy can be life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.
Schedule Your Free Ultrasound
After a positive result on a pregnancy test, your next step is a free ultrasound. Please understand this ultrasound is not to determine the gender of the baby. If you have already had an ultrasound at the ER or with a medical provider, we will not be able to perform another ultrasound.
Let our knowledgeable and caring medical staff walk you through this process. Once we find out more information, we discuss your options.
